On Friday 17 March, the first copy of Post uit Utrecht will be handed out in the City Hall from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Postcards of the city of Utrecht from the Lisman collection, 1900-1925. Writers Bettina van Santen and Fred Vogelzang will give a short introduction.

Although picture postcards have a purpose other than recording history, they can give a fascinating picture of a city like Utrecht about a hundred years ago. Anthony Lisman's rich collection offers ample opportunity for this. He passionately collected thousands of postcards from the first decades of the twentieth century. A book about the Vecht region was compiled from that collection in 2021 and there is now a book about the city of Utrecht. At the beginning of the last century, Utrecht faced a number of major changes. The somewhat sleepy city of notables slowly but surely turned into a center of trade and industry. This transition took place in a society where class differences still played a major role and most people mainly moved through the city on foot. The story of Utrecht between 1900 and 1925 is told on the basis of themes such as work, transport, shops and education, mainly thanks to the more than 400 carefully selected picture postcards. We also wander along the Dom, the canals and the canals and through suburbs such as the Wilhelminapark, the Vogelenbuurt and the Rivierenwijk. Well-known and lesser-known images and special specimens from the collection alternate and bring the Utrecht of more than a hundred years ago to life. The authors Fred Vogelzang and Bettina van Santen are affiliated with the Oud-Utrecht Association, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2023.
